After I was notified of an article that underlines why the noncommercial CC licenses pose a problem for sites posting free content, I have changed the license for all content hosted on paniq.org from Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 2.5 to Attribution-Share Alike 3.0, which makes commercial republication of my work possible as well, but only under a similar license.
Did you know? If you run Rhythmbox or any other Podcast Player, you can easily create a playlist from the "Albums" RSS feed and listen to the tracks in your player. The feed URL is http://www.paniq.org/albums/feed. To add it to e.g. Rhythmbox, click right on Podcasts, select New Podcast Feed..., enter the feed URL and click on Add. There you go :)
When Story of Ohm was originally released, I thought that those 500 sold copies would be reached in a far shorter time. Seems I was too optimistic, and all you freeloaders are waiting longer than necessary to pull those tracks from my server.
Therefore, I'm going to change the rules. As soon as the next album is going to be released (which is still going to take a while), I'm going to make the previous one free for download. This will remain as a rule for the following years. Whenever a new album is going to be released, the previous one will be released for free.
Update: of course, my new cool rule makes the FLAC download of Lost Known Good Configuration free as well. I hope you blog about it, at least ;)
Hi everyone. In the past weeks I've been reconfiguring my server and updating Drupal from 4.x to 5.x, which unfortunately made the audio database worthless, which is why it currently looks like somebody took a dump into it.
I switched the site theme to a default style that I will probably adapt over the next weeks, right now I think it's a good clear browseable theme.
I deleted all comments from the database, as it became impossible to sort out all the spam before the beginning of the next millennium. Instead, I added a captcha form to each comment submission, which is, I admit, a bit annoying, but it sorts out the spammers - hopefully. While you prove that you are human to the system, you also help digitizing books, so that's a good thing, mmkay? :)
So, the music is back in an unsorted form, to compensate for that I brought back the search box, so have fun with that. Most possibly there will also be a forum soon.
Now for the music: you guys keep asking me for new music, but at the moment I'm mostly sharpening my pencils, so to speak. Aldrin, the sequencer that I'm using, is currently getting a facelift, so I am blocked. However I hope that this longer pause will also elevate my creative spirit, and prove that there have been no permanent damages caused by long exposure to paid work.
The man who had a strong influence on the paniq logo died today, as his blog tells us. I'm a bit angry he's gone. Robert Anton Wilson, you rock.
Quite a good article I found via the Bitchun Society blog. The Bitchun Society lets you find people who share your interests and can help you through the use of a special Skype bot they call Bitchun Butler.
Money has been said to change people's motivation (mainly for the better) and their behavior toward others (mainly for the worse). The results of nine experiments suggest that money brings about a self-sufficient orientation in which people prefer to be free of dependency and dependents. Reminders of money, relative to nonmoney reminders, led to reduced requests for help and reduced helpfulness toward others. Relative to participants primed with neutral concepts, participants primed with money preferred to play alone, work alone, and put more physical distance between themselves and a new acquaintance.
Scene musician Oxbee/Oxbow/0xb has finally set up his page with a few nice audio tracks for you to check out. My favorite so far is this track.
Chaos Computer Club has released a compilation CD of Creative Commons licenced tracks (german) to promote a boycott of the music industry. Among artists like Thievery Corporation and the Beastie Boys, there's also some paniq on the CD.
It seems that the Bitfilm Festival is not going to have a demo competition this year. Here's the letter that I got today:
Dear participants of the Bitflim Festival,
due to the fact that there were only a few submissions in the category
"demoshow" we felt impelled to cancel this years demo competition. We
are really sorry about how things turned out, as we use to hold a demo
competition for two years now. This cancellation will indeed be a
reduction of the festivals diversity, and more. Before this turns out to
be something like pathetic public-relations-blabla, I wanna get serious:
We DO WANT to show and broadcast demos on our festival and we WILL try
to make up another competition later again. Demo tends to be quite the
opposite mainstream film-making, for to me it is making a piece of work
in order to make a piece of work and not selling it afterwards, and
that's what art should be like.
Demo is something I still don't fully understand (and I am watching
demos and reading demo news for over three years now). Though I haven't
been on a single demo party yet and I often don't understand what you
guys are talking about (in technical terms) when I meet you, I don't
wanna miss demos on the coming festivals again, as I don't wanna miss
your presence there as well. The way we promote the festival now- within
the Bitfilm Club- is a way we always liked to go for a very long time
now, coz there always has been a loose community of digital film makers,
and we wanted to bring them together. We implemented the demo
competition to the Bitfilm Festival as an expansion of approach and
style. And even if we can't show demos as executables on our websites
but only as videos, we hope that you will handle that anachronism.
Some last words: I hope that even if there is no demo comp this year you
will stay with us, stay in the club and watch out for new challenges
under the Bitfilm sign, coz they will happen. Some of the demos could be
integrated elsewhere, e.g. in the 3d programme, unfortunately others
couldn't. If you are not under latter ones I beg your pardon and can
only say that it isn't the quality of your works that prevented us from
doing so but the quantity of space we could offer in other programmes.
Stay with us as we will stay with u
All the best
Tim Rittmann
P.S. Sorry that I inform you on that hot topic for so late.
